Ingrown Toenails

Ingrown toenails occur when the side of the toenail grows into the surrounding flesh, causing pain and sometimes infection. Although a minor discomfort at first, the problem can continue until it is infected.

Our team regularly treat ingrown toenail symptoms and can provide a variety of conservative or surgical management options.

  • Conservative: provides immediate relief by clearing the edge of nail ingrown into the skin. Conservative management can be performed under a local anaesthetic if needed to make it a pleasant pain free procedure. This procedure is recommended to patients with first time ingrown toenails.

  • Surgical management: provides immediate relief by clearing the edge of nail ingrown into the skin down to the nail matrix. The matrix is then treated with an acid to stop that edge of nail from ever-growing back. This procedure leaves no scars, minimal pain and minimal down time. This procedure is performed under local anaesthetic to make it a pleasant pain free procedure. This procedure is recommended to patients with re- occurring ingrown toenails. Once this procedure is performed the ingrown will never grow back again!

Biomechanical Assessment/ Video Gait Analysis

Our Biomechanical assessment allows for a comprehensive evaluation of the structure, alignment and function of the feet and legs while standing and walking.

It involves a range of motion study, manual muscle testing and a video gait analysis of the pelvis, hips, knees, ankles and feet. Video Gait Analysis is an advanced form of assessment software that assists us in diagnosing complex motion-related pathologies. With this technology, we are able to obtain accurate and comprehensive information to breakdown the way you walk and find the underlying cause of your foot pain.

Gait analysis is conducted through video footage, which allows the podiatrist to slow down, speed up and pause motion leading to a more accurate and detailed analysis. From there, we can recommend solutions on how to improve gait technique to decrease injury and eliminate foot pain.

Fungal Care

Fungal infections in the foot skin and toenails are commonly known as Tinea or Athlete’s Foot. We can clinically diagnose a toenail or skin fungal infection and propose the best treatment option for you.

For fungal nail infections, burring of non-viable, infected nail allows topical anti fungal agents to penetrate into the nail bed, yielding faster results. For foot skin fungal infections, we can mandrel fungal infected skin, and debridement of nonviable callus. This allows topical antifungals to clear the skin of infection.

Wound Management

A minor cut or scratch on your foot is usually not cause for alarm, but certain kinds of wounds on your feet can become infected and lead to other foot health problems if they are not treated promptly.

Our Podiatry team are highly experienced with the diagnosis and management of complex wounds. We will work with you in healing and developing a team of health specialists who can provide the best care for you.

Sports Injury Management

We manage a range of musculoskeletal injuries with a keen interest in sports injury and rehabilitation. Management plans are designed around patient goals, to help reduce pain, improve function and restore strength. Our team uses the latest research with clinical expertise and patient values when designing patient rehab programs.

  • Heel Pain (heel spurrs, and plantar fasciitis)
  • Achilles pain
  • Forefoot and mid foot pain

However patients do not need to be injured to see our podiatrist. Based on our thorough assessments we can fix imbalances to optimise the way our patients perform in day-to-day tasks and in sports.

Diabetic Foot Assessments

If you have diabetes, regular diabetic foot assessments are an important part of looking after yourself. At Evolve health clinic, our podiatrists can conduct diabetic foot assessments to check your feet and treat any problems before they become serious. These assessments include:

  • Dermatological Assessment; Assessment of skin and nails for any infections, pressure areas or other risk factors.
  • Neurological Assessment; Assessment of Vibration perception, light touch perception, dermatome testing
  • Vascular Assessment; Involves palpation of pulses, Doppler Ultrasound assessment and Venous refill time

Wart Management

Warts appear on the side of the foot or toes. Treatment of warts involves debriding tissue covering the wart, applying a solution to remove the wart. This process will be repeated once per week until the wart is removed. Book online or contact us to see how we can help your wart management.

Paediatrics

It is normal for children’s feet and legs to change during their development. Pain, tripping, limping, and not keeping up with their peers are some appropriate reasons to bring children in for an assessment.

At Evolve health clinic, we know well that children’s feet and legs are constantly developing and changing as a normal part of growth. There are milestones and expected ranges of normal development against which we assess our paediatric patients. As part of our assessment, we will assess a child’s signs and symptoms, family history, and individual development and activity levels when developing a treatment plan.
